The People Project

The People Project

Dear Church Family,

I believe that God has provided us with a unique opportunity through our People Project by enabling us to impact the lives of our church and our community to a greater degree.  As we focus on this Capital Stewardship Campaign, I want you to reflect on God’s blessings in your life and upon our church.  Certainly, we cannot help but feel gratitude and anticipation as we seek God’s will.

I am confident that The People Project will open new doors of opportunity for Willow Creek.  With the success of this venture, we will enhance our ministry to our children and teens, and we will greatly expand our discipleship and outreach ministries to adults.

We are now challenged to give sacrificially, over and above our current giving, for three years.  This program requires diligent prayer and obedience to God’s leading.  I genuinely believe that the people of Willow Creek are ready for the challenge that this People Project offers.  Let us enter boldly into this endeavor, trusting God for grace and provision.

Please examine the enclosed brochure carefully.  With a heart full of gratitude and faith, I ask you to consider your part in this campaign.  What is given is a personal decision between you and God.  What we accomplish together will benefit many.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may the fame of His name increase through the ministry of our church!

In Christ,

Pastor Mike

What's The Purpose of The Project?

What's The Purpose of The Project?

The People Project really is about investing in people. It’s not just some politically correct statement. While a building is what we need, the purpose is to reach actual people. We want to grow our church spiritually and numerically.

If you’ve ever attended an adult education class here at The Creek you know of the complete inadequacy of our facilities! (We especially want to apologize to anyone who has ever taken a class stuffed in the upper storage rooms above the baptistry.)

God has continued to bless our church through the years by bringing more people to us. With our continuing mission to reach our city with the gospel, its very evident that if we want to continue to invest in people in an effective way, we need more space.

The People Project allows us to do this by building the tools necessary to facilitate and cultivate growth.

We want to design and build a new children’s facility that will not only accommodate and enhance our children’s and student ministry, but free up multiple classrooms that can be dedicated for adult learning.

Kristin and I were newlyweds when we moved to Des Moines 12 years ago. We had no friends or family in the state. Once we started attending Willow Creek, we came to understand the bond of Christ and the universality of the Church. We have made friends and have been challenged spiritually by biblical gospel-driven teaching and preaching. Just like our own family has grown, our church family has grown.

How Will We Pay For The Project?

How Will We Pay For The Project?

Currently the estimated cost of the project is close to $2 million.

We have a goal to raise $1.6 million on our own over the next three years through gifts and donations from people at The Creek.

We also have the option to borrow up to $750,000 without impacting our current budget at all.

We obviously would desire to raise the whole amount but we have the flexibility to borrow in order to get the project off the ground.

The People Project shows a love for people and the mighty work that God is doing at Willow Creek. While this is a “building project”, the need has risen because God has worked through a body of believers that has shown God’s love to their community. This has brought about the need for more space to effectively serve the people in the Des Moines area.

Our level one amount would be a good challenge that is probably doable in our own strength.

This would take faith. It will be a stretch and will stretch our faith. This amount would allow us to build with a reasonable amount of debt.

To raise the whole amount would be a huge step of faith and would allow us to build the entire project with little to no debt.

How Can I Help?

How Can I Help?

There are a number of ways in which you can help The People Project. The most obvious is to give your resources whether it be monetary, skills or time.

Prayer is a major way you can help. We recently challenged the church to participate in 24 hours of prayer for the project and the people in our community. We still need lots of prayer for funds to come in, decisions to be made and for the focus to continually be on spreading the gospel.

There are a number of teams that have been created who need skilled and qualified people. If you are asked to participate please consider saying yes and helping out.

Contact the church office if there are additional ways you would like to help out The People Project.

Please be praying about what you might commit to give to The People Project.
