Tell us about your Family!
I have an interesting wife named Lydia. We have been married for 15 years. We have 2 very sweet girls Ruby (7yrs) and Clara (9yrs). We also have a cat named Josie and a goldfish (who will never die!) named Kelly.
What is your favorite movie?
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Favorite TV Show?
The Cosby Show
What music do you listen to when you’re not at the office?
Pretty much the same music I listen to in the office. I am very much a mood listener. Listening to Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6 on Saturday mornings while making pancakes is my favorite. I tend to really enjoy soul, hip-hop, house, Afro, Latin, electronica, jazz, bluegrass, reggae, gospel, funk, and folk.
Indian, I will eat at an Indian buffet until it hurts my tummy.
Best Local grub?
Which place makes me look like a monster while eating? Right now it’s Big Tomato Pizza Company.
Are you the typical hipster youth pastor? Why or why not?
I don’t think so. Back in the day when I started, grunge was the popular look. I’m pretty sure I was the only youth pastor in that time who did not wear a hemp necklace and have a goatee. Today we have the hipster. My jeans may have gotten a little skinnier, the hair on the side of my head is shaved, and I own a turntable…does that make me hipster? We shall never know.
If you could go on a vacation to anywhere in the world for free where would you go?
A European hiking tour with my special lady Lydia would be dope!
If you could ask the congregation to do one thing for our youth group, what would it be?
Weekend with your wife, where do you take her?
Since she is not keen on long road trips, I suppose Galena, Illinois would be suitable.
What is the hardest part of your job?
Feeling a weight of nonstop responsibility.
Working with 4 of your college buddies is a dream for a lot of people, what makes it work?
I didn’t know Josh or Zach in college. I barely knew Cody. I shared a dorm with Mike but we were not close buddies. We are all close in age and are definitely good friends today. What makes us work is we are all very different people who respect and love each other…and share the same humor.
What is difficult about the situation?
Not hurting their feelings when you know you should.
