We love singing together at The Creek. Below are the songs that we sang together on  August 3 as well as some other resources. If you click on the title of the song you can purchase it in iTunes. There is also an amazon link available for most songs.

The Wonderful Cross is a modern arrangement of the hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. However,  Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman added a nice little chorus to open up the song and give time to reflect on the deep gospel centered theology that Isaac Watts packed into the hymn. Watts wrote the hymn in 1707 and has had amazing staying power as it is still used in many churches today. The hymn focuses on Christ's suffering, sacrifice, and our response. It reminds us that nothing is comparable to the riches of Christ. The most familiar tune was composed by the Father of American church music Lowell Mason in 1824. The tune is based off a Gregorian chant. It is reported the hymn writer Charles Wesley said that he would through away all of his hymns to be the author of When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.

The Wonderful Cross

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

See from His head His hands His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find
That I may truly live
O the wonderful cross
O the wonderful cross
All who gather here by grace
Draw near and bless Your name

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul my life my all

Bob Kauflin is a long time worship leader, song writer, producer, and all around great resource. His team is currently working on a Christmas Album. In recent albums they have been writing music for specific passages of scripture. He notes that this philosophy is helping them create a very unique Christmas album. "Writing songs to specific passages of Scripture in each lesson caused us to explore some new territory for Christmas songs. While not all of the songs ended up being congregational, I’m pretty excited about what we ended up with."
