Behind the Music

The act of being grateful is not the natural bent of our hearts. Take a moment and think through how little phrases of ungratefulness pop into your head. I really wish...why do we always...they have it so...they make me so...I really thought we should have...if only. Statements like these result from setting our desires on the idols of our hearts.

On Sunday, we spent some time reorienting our hearts by looking at Christ's completely unselfish sacrifice for us when we were vehemently opposed to Him. One of the songs in our list was Jesus Thank You. It uses wonderfully descriptive language to describe Christ's actions to bring us into a right relationship with Him.

One of the inspirational verses for the song is Roman 5:10-11. These verses describe well our opposition to God and His desire to reconcile. They say, "For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!  Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." Check out the lyrics and the official lyrics video below.

The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend
The agonies of Calvary
You the perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son
Who drank the bitter cup reserved for me

Your blood has washed away my sin
Jesus, thank You
The Father’s wrath completely satisfied
Jesus, thank You
Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table
Jesus, thank You

By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near
Your enemy You’ve made Your friend
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace
Your mercy and Your kindness know no end

Lover of my soul
I want to live for You
